Icon Tracing

This is my trace using Illustrator's pen tool. Not very exciting.

Photoshopped and Illustrated

For the illustrator version of my image I just went for a monotone palette. I'm not very skilled in the Illustrator tool so I just chose to do a 16-color live trace for the background and then a gray scale trace for the thought bubble. It kind of represents the dark reality of his dream because if you didn't know, beta fish are fresh water creatures and he would die in the ocean.
For the final project what I did was to create a thought bubble for Orlando (the fish in the tank). The reason he's in the hall is because he is hoping to live out his dream of being free in the ocean.

I chose to use this image because I think I can do a lot with the background area. For the most part I'm going to keep it the same but add a few elements here and there.

Gregory Crewson's images are missing life to me. It is mentioned on the npr site that Crewson likes that he can only capture one specific moment with a photograph. That's what I myself love about photography, that you can capture a moment that would otherwise be lost froever. However, Crewson's photographs always seem to be at a moment when the subject looks utterly heartbroken, lonely, grief stricken, and devoid any joy at all. And as for that matter, his photos seem to cease being photography and rather become a created image instead of a captured image.

Jeff Wall's images definitely have more life, which is something I can always appreciate. At the same time there is something very static about his images. They are kind of plain and not as exciting to look at visually. With Crewson's created images, though in subjects were lifeless there were endless other visually stimulating things to look at. But with Wall's images, the subjects are very much lively but the scenes are uninteresting. Even the one image where a man is holding a glass of splashing white liquid seems kind of stoic to me. Then again everyone sees art differently.

Cindy Sherman is someone I know a little bit about and I've always found her work very interesting, especially in this context when the other two artists use some kind of photoshop to create their images. Her images are always interesting for the ways she reinvents herself and the space around her. If memory serves me correctly, I believe she was a one woman show as well. Her images cover a wide spectrum from classic beauty to deranged and its all eyecatching.

Time

The fleeting moments in life are more precious than gold and photography is a poor excuse but it's all we have.
